Newton County residents raised $241,922 for Relay for Life this year as 64 teams and 950 people participated in the annual fundraiser for the fight against the cancer.

Supporters gathered Friday night at the Church at Covington to honor survivors, remembers lost loved ones and pledge their support in the continuing fight to find a cure for cancer.

The top three team fundraisers were Bard Medical at $19,926, Lendmark Financial at $19,768 and Covington First United Methodist Church at $13,686, according to the official Relay for Life website.

The top three individual fundraisers were Dianna Galloway at $6,246, Claudia Callway at $3,155 and Barbara Schemmel at $2,649.
