The 23rd annual Georgia Heartland Woman’s Club Charity Croquet Tournament will be Saturday at the soccer fields at Oxford College.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and play will begin at 10 a.m. continuing until about 2 p.m. with a lunch break. Entry fee is $50 and includes play and breakfast and lunch.

Games follow the golf croquet format and usually last no more than 25 minutes. Those unfamiliar with the game will be given a lesson before play begins, but,” it is a simple game and anyone of any age will enjoy,” said Debby Vanderbunt, event chairman.

There will be prizes for the winners of each bracket and prizes for those who dress traditionally for croquet (in all white).
Also there will be a silent auction for numerous gift baskets.

All proceeds will be used to support two local charities. The first charity is Phoenix Pass which provides single mothers and their children with transitional housing and life skills training. The second is A Child’s Voice Advocacy Center Inc. which serves Newton, Walton and surrounding counties and is designed to meet the needs of children who are victims of sexual or physical abuse or neglect.

“The tournament is a great way to have a day of fun with family or friends and help people in local counties who are in need,” Vanderbunt said. “Everyone is welcome to play or just drop by to enjoy the event.”
