Stocks barely budge in early trade following big gain Friday

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are barely budging in early trading as the market comes off its biggest gain in two months.

Dean Foods jumped 10 percent early Monday after the company reported earnings that beat analysts' forecasts. Actavis also rose after its results beat estimates.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 16 points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,173 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time. The Dow climbed 266 points on Friday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was little changed at 2,116. The Nasdaq composite edged up eight points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,012.

The stock market had its biggest gain in two months Friday after the U.S. government reported an encouraging pickup in hiring.

Bond prices fell early Monday. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.18 percent.
