DAWSON, Ga. (AP) — The mayor of a southwest Georgia town has been shot at his home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that local police in Dawson, Ga., responded to gunshots on a residential street Thursday night. They discovered the town's mayor, Christopher Wright, wounded at his residence.

Wright was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for his wounds. State police did not release details of his condition or say whether the incident is related to his job as mayor.

Dawson is the seat of Terrell County, located about 150 miles south of Atlanta, near Albany.

According to WALB television in Albany, the 23-year-old mayor became the youngest mayor in the state when he was elected last November.
