ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police say a man who tried grabbing a child being walked to school by their mother was shot soon afterward.
Sgt. Greg Lyon says a woman was walking her child to school Wednesday morning when a man approached and tried grabbing the child. The woman and child escaped and called police.
Lyon says shortly afterward, officers responded to a shooting near the area the where the man tried grabbing the child. Lyon says officers found 24-year-old Rico Holmes bleeding and the woman who called earlier identified him as the suspect.
Authorities say Holmes told investigators he was the victim of an unprovoked shooting by the occupant of a small burgundy car.
Lyon says charges are pending against Holmes and police are searching for the shooter.
