CLARKESVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say Clarkesville's mayor, Dr. Terry Greene, has died after a shooting at his home.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles said Monday in an emailed statement that the shooting "resulted from a reported domestic disturbance at the residence between Mayor Greene and his wife Anne Greene." An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Miles declined to release further details.

Clarkesville Police Chief Brad Barrett tells The Times of Gainesville (http://bit.ly/1NlhC1B ) that officers found Greene lying in a room believed to be his study around 7 p.m. Sunday. Greene was pronounced dead at an Atlanta hospital.

The city's website says Greene was first elected to Clarkesville City Council in 1999 and was mayor since 2005. The website also says Greene was a physician in private practice specializing in internal medicine.
