Nell Batson, of Covington, died January 6, 2009, at Rockdale Medical Center, at the age of 72. Daughter of the late Tally T. and Marie Evans Hill, she was born and raised in Timmonsville, SC and had been a resident of Newton County for 29 years. She was a graduate of Furman University, taught in several elementary schools including Porterdale Elementary for 10 years and retired from the Newton County School System. Mrs. Batson was a member of First United Methodist Church in Covington, East Metro Christian Women’s Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority Alumni Association and attended Bible Study Fellowship in Conyers. Survivors include husband, Waddy Batson of Covington; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Julie Batson of Marietta; grandchildren, Morgan Batson, Meredith Batson, Lauren Batson; brother, J. T. Hill of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Batson will be held Saturday, January 10, 11:00 AM, at Covington First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Whatley and Dr. Royeese Stowe officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that donations be made to American Heart Association, Georgia Chapter, 1353 Jennings Mill Road, Suite A, Bogart, GA 30622. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Friday, January 9, from 6-8 PM.
