Welcome back to the Minute, good readers, so glad you could join us once again.

Famous by February

Founded in 2013, Famous by February is an Indie-rock group based out of Covington and is comprised of Bethany Grace (vocals, guitar), Shane Clark (lead guitar, vocals), Chad Jones (bass, vocals) and Jonna (drums, keyboards). Influenced by groups such as The Pixies and The Cure, the group concentrates on original material that can be described as ambient and almost experimental, but with rock and pop sensibilities.

I've been following this group since its inception as I've known Chad for many years. He's a super cool guy, a great bass player, and one of the best tattoo artists around. And while this column primarily covers a lot of acoustic acts, I'm a big fan of these guys. Bethany Grace is someone I've covered in this space before, and she is a superb and dynamic singer. The recent addition of the exceptionally talented Shane Clark, another person we've covered a few times in the Minute, has really put this group on a higher level. And multi-instrumentalist Jonna is the icing on the cake. I recently got to see a Facebook Live video of one of their songs and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great!

They play in Atlanta a good bit, Smith's Olde Bar in particular, and recently played a show up in Philly. They have plans to play several more out of state shows in the coming months and are really making waves and building a following with their unique sound. Adrian "Showtime" Barksdale live at The Listening Room on Friday, Jan. 27, 8 p.m. Live at Lahrceny Tavern Saturday, Jan. 28, 9 p.m.

As I mentioned back in an August column, Rich Archer turned me on to this fella by sending me a link to a YouTube video of Adrian tearin' up some Stevie Ray Vaughn. It was epic! That show in Porterdale was Barksdale's first foray into the Newton Co. music scene and fortunately for us, it wasn't his last. Friday night will see "Showtime" bringing his talents to the upstairs of the Irish Pub and then Saturday he'll head down 81 to do it again at Lahrceny Tavern (formerly The Social House). In addition to being a real-deal Bluesman, Barksdale is also known as the consummate showman, hence the nickname of "Showtime." If you're a fan of the Blues and Rock, I'd recommend getting to at least one of these performances.

Amy Rae, Joe Duke & Jonah. Live at The Mystic Grill on Friday Jan. 27. 7 p.m.

Another one of the favorites of The Minute, these guys once again return to The Mystic Grill. Amy Rae is truly a great talent - impressive vocals and strong songwriting - and Joe and Jonah complement her so well. While primarily a Country sound, there are elements of Rock and other genres as well. Definitely keep an eye out for several of Amy's originals - it's really good stuff. This should be a great night at The Mystic.
