Local graduate: D'Mario Freeman graduated from DeKalb Technical College during its graduation ceremony on May 21. D'Mario started attending GED classes held at Nelson Heights Community Center in September 2010 when non-profit Newton County Reads started holding classes there. D'Mario attended classes each week and worked hard, officials said. D'Mario now plans to attend college or the military, options he did not have before he received his GED. He is the first graduate at the Nelson Heights site and was an inspiration to the other students enrolled in the Newton County Reads program who were present during a ceremony held in his honor at Nelson Heights Community Center.
