I had the pleasure of hearing the show put on by Chris, Jon and Scott in Porterdale this weekend and am eagerly awaiting another great weekend of music in Newton County.

Vishus Cycle is playing at the Porterdale Bar and Grill, located at 52 South Broad Street, Friday March 4 at 9 p.m.
By all accounts, Vishus Cycle puts on a real-deal rock show. Unlike a lot of other bands that concentrate on classic rock, these guys focus more on rock from the ‘80s, ‘90s and beyond. They've taken up monthly residence at the Porterdale Bar and Grill, and they seem to have a pretty good following.

Also on Friday:

Jeff Taylor will play at Amici’s in Covington (College Ave just off the Square). I've been hearing pretty good things about this young musician. I'm a big fan of Amici's well bourbon, Kentucky Gentleman — it's pretty good quality at a great price — artichoke hearts, and their wings. I like mine mild with garlic, and a lot of ranch dressing.

Shane Clark will play at Sycamore St. Pizzeria, located at 198 E Sycamore St. in Social Circle Saturday, March 5.

Billed as "Hank to Nirvana," this guy is country meets rock, and I’m told he always packs out the house. Shane also hosts an open mic night at the Social House that's been getting pretty popular. Speaking of:

Also on Saturday, Radio Cult will perform at The Social House in Porterdale. Judging by their Facebook page and their pictures, these guys and girl are quite the characters and I've heard they put on one heck of a show.
Featured future venues:
More will come in this space on these venues as we get closer to them opening, starting up, or bringing back their live music.
The much-anticipated Irish Bred Pub that will be opening next-door to The Cork on the east side of the Square will become not only the premier music venue in Newton County, but one of the best in the great state of Georgia. While they'll be doing smaller acoustic acts downstairs, they will have a music hall upstairs where they will be featuring local, regional and possibly even some national talent. The owners of this endeavor are true music lovers and really appreciate the plethora of talented artists we have in our area. This venue will transform the music scene of Covington and Newton County and we will all — musicians and music lovers, alike — be the better for it.

The new pizza joint on the south side of the Square, Your Pie, plans to start doing regular music in the middle of March. They've done a great job with that place and that pizza is pretty darn good.

Once the weather gets a bit warmer, the Mystic Grill will be bringing back live music up on the roof top. A pretty special place, there's nothing like catching a good show while enjoying a libation and looking over the beautiful Covington Square.
