COVINGTON, Ga. - The Kiwanis Club of Covington presented a $2,000 check to local nonprofit, Southern Heartland Arts, Inc.
One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to provide scholarships to children in the Newton County community for Summer Art Camp or for on-going instruction with certified art instructors at Southern Heartland Visual Art Center.
Members of SHA, Inc. wish to express appreciation for the many services the Kiwanis Club of Covington provide the children of Newton County and the organizations serving children.
This donation is the second time the Kiwanis have shared their generosity with SHA, Inc. In 2016, a similar donation provided scholarships for more than 20 children. Each year as part of its mission statement, SHA, Inc. awards scholarships to college bound high school graduates interested in careers in the visual arts, students already attending universities majoring in the visual arts, and underserved children for on-going visual art classes and summer art camp programs. In 2016, SHA Inc. disbursed over $6500 in scholarships.SHA, Inc. was incorporated as a nonprofit advocate for the visual arts in 1988, and their visual art center has anchored the Covington square for over 13 years. SHA, Inc. receives no tax dollars, relying on their corporate sponsors (listed on their website) and donations from residents who support the visual arts.
