Only two weeks into the new year and local law enforcement officials are already investigating their second murder after a 43-year-old woman was shot early Wednesday morning in her home on Lake Lucinda Drive.

Newton County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Watterson described the murder as an act of domestic violence. The accused murderer has been arrested but his name and the name of his victim are currently being withheld while investigators continue to finalize the details of the case.

"We got the call at about 4:40 this morning and we have been going at it ever since," Watterson said. "We are still conducting interviews and will be for a while."

For legal reasons, Watterson said exact details of the case may not be released for months.

"We not release everything until the case goes to trial," Watterson said.

NCSO Lt. Keith Crum is leading the investigation and will decide tonight the exact charges the suspect will face.
