Director of The Learning Center Mollie Melvin is inviting Newton County residents to attend the organization's 4th annual Wine-d Down with The Learning Center.

"The event includes dinner and music, silent and live auctions," Melvin said, "and, of course, wine tasting."

Indian Creek Golf Club will host the event at 7 p.m. Saturday. Sigman Bottling Company will donate the wine for tasting.

Tickets are $50 a person. Payment will be accepted at the door as long as reservations are made on the organization's Web site at www.leapintobooks.org.

Proceeds will benefit The Learning Center's participation in Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - a program which supplies families with age appropriate books from the birth of a child to its fifth birthday.

"We also have other programs we are developing," Melvin said.

She hopes to start a Young Reader's Theatre program, a music activities program and the Lovin' Spoonful nutrition education program.

Some of the larger auction items include airline tickets for domestic flights with a hotel stay, weekend vacation packages at Lake Lanier, St. Simons Island and North Carolina, tickets to the opening night of the Atlanta Opera's performance of Hansel and Gretel, tickets to the UGA vs. Auburn football game and complimentary salsa lessons.

"It's going to be great fun and a great networking opportunity for people who haven't been in town long," Melvin said, "and, of course, benefits all the children of Newton County."
