Wendy Sherrell Lackey

Wendy Sherrell Lackey died Aug. 18. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Raymond (Annie Lois) Lackey, she was born in 1955 in Evanston, Ill. She attended Evanston public schools. She joined New Hope CME Church at an early age, and after moving to Covington, she joined Richard's Chapel United Methodist Church. She served as an usher at White's Chapel United Methodist Church, worked on the Pastor's Aid Committee at Springfield Baptist Church, and later joined Stronghold Christian Church. Ms. Lackey worked as an industrial plant engineer. She had a passion for music, enjoyed sports and cheered her home team the Chicago bulls. She was happiest when surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by parents and brothers Mr. Raymond Lackey Jr. and Robert Lackey.

Surviving are children Aaron Weatherly, Temeka Weatherly, Candice Ellis and Keiven Rhodes; grandson Micah Weatherly; brother Mr. Steve (the Rev. Lisa) Lackey; sister Mrs. Kimberly (Randy) Lawrence; nieces and nephews Toriya, Tristen, Randall, Raven, Raymond James and Kyndal; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Aug. 25 at Stronghold Christian Church, Lithonia, with the Rev. Lisa Lackey and Pastor Benjamin Gaither officiating. Interment followed at Lackey's Cemetery, Covington.
