Travis Mooney, 16, of Covington, passed away Feb. 26, after fighting a courageous battle against acute myelogeneous leukemia.

He was a ninth grade student of Eastside High School and had attended Carver Middle School in Monroe where he played the trumpet in the band. Travis was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Monroe and enjoyed driving his truck and fishing. He never complained and was a courageous and loving son, brother, uncle and grandson.

Surviving are parents George and Linda Mooney of Covington; sisters Brandi Garcia of Gainesville and Andrina Green of Covington; brothers George Mooney Jr. of Covington, Clifford Mooney of Gainesville, Dylan Green of Covington, Bradley Mooney of Granite Falls, N.C.; one niece and one nephew; grandparents Reedie Keeling of Covington, Danny Keeling of Dickson, Tenn., Loye and Shirley Tinkey of Wellsville, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 29, in the Floyd Street chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with Pastor Brian Armour officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AFLAC Cancer Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, 1687 Tullie Circle, Atlanta, GA 30329, or to Travis Mooney Fund, c/o Athens Regional Bank.
