Tommy James Ashby Sr.

Mr. Tommy James Ashby Sr., 65, of Covington, died at his residence July 26. The son of the late Vivian Ashby and Ruby Hager Ashby, he was born in Boone County, W. Va., in 1942. He was retired from Clayton County as a lieutenant in the Corrections Office. Mr. Ashby attended Solid Rock Baptist Church, Covington. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Ashby loved hunting, fishing and camping and was an avid fan of the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was a member of the Masons, Warfield Lodge No. 124, and of the Ancian York rite.

Surviving are wife Mary Ashby; son and daughter-in-law Tommy and Maria Ashby; son Kevin Ashby; daughter and son-in-law Kim and Richard Durand; grandchildren Alan and Amanda Ashby, Elilysha Ashby, Jonathan Plunkett, Scott and Cason Durant, Matt Durand, Brent Durand, Jake Ashby, Katie Ashby; great-grandchild Austin Plunkett, all of Covington; sisters Ella and Pete Bias of Hewett, W. Va., Sharon and Wayne Price of Cross Lanes, W. Va., Susan Ashby of Atlanta; brothers Douglas and Gladys Ashby, Johnny and Libby Ashby, all of Ravenwood, W. Va., Paul and Linda Ashby of Columbia W. Va., Terry and Laura Ashby of Tucker; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral Home today, July 27, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Solid Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Franklin officiating. Flowers accepted or donations may be made to Relay for Life, Tommy's Angels team of Covington.
