A thief broke into a truck at Frito Lay Inc. and made off with off with approximately $300 worth of cookies, crackers, peanuts and chips, according to a Covington Police Department report.

 An employee reported leaving the truck next to the building at Frito Lay on Old Atlanta Highway around 6 p.m. on April 7 and heading home. When he returned at the next morning around 5:15 a.m., he discovered the truck had been entered through a broken rear glass door and the snack merchandise was missing. The truck was registered to Rolling Frito Lay in Lawrenceville.

Candy in the gas tank

 A Covington woman found someone lodged candy into the gas tank of her car, according to the CPD public information log.

 A sugary vandal stuffed portions of a candy bar into the gas tank pipe of the 2003 GMC Yukon sometime between 8 p.m. April 12 and 8:22 a.m. April 13, according to the report. The owner discovered the damage in the morning when the "check engine" light came on. The Yukon had been parked in the driveway of her residence, which had been filmed by a camera surveillance system.

 The owner suspected a person who had been seen throwing baseballs at the car a few days earlier, according to the report.

Vandalized with sweets 

 A resentful customer may have vandalized the car of another Covington woman with large amounts of sweet treats.

 According to a Newton County Sheriff's Office report, the owner found the car wouldn't start in the morning as she was heading to church on March 30.

 Upon inspection, she discovered a large amount of "cake, cookies and sugar" had been stuffed into her gas tank.

 The 64-year-old woman, who reportedly had trouble sleeping, said she had seen a man get out of a white car early in the morning, around 3 a.m., but hadn't paid attention at the time.

 She told deputies her husband sold a car to a similar looking man a couple days before who had driven a similar looking car. The man called a day earlier complaining that the truck had problems and he wanted his money back.

Liquored up

 A Covington man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence while sitting in his driveway, according to a CPD report.

 Officer Asher Dozier responded to a 911 hang-up call at a Covington residence and found Dennis Anthony sitting in the driver's seat of a 1995 Buick Roadmaster with the engine running and one empty can and one near empty can of Steel Reserve malt liquor next to him.

 Anthony reportedly stuck his hands out the window and said, "I'm just sitting here, I'm not going to drive." When asked for his identification card, he turned the car off and handed Dozier the keys, telling him to do whatever he needed.

 According to the report, Anthony had a "thick tongue," slurred speech, poor understanding of directions and poor coordination.

 When Doizer knocked on the door, Anthony yelled that he was knocking too hard. Dozier explained he was trying to get someone to the door because it was raining so hard. Anthony replied that Dozier needed to "go get a rain coat, then."

 Anthony's wife answered the door, reportedly appearing upset and flustered, and stated nothing was wrong and no one had called 911. She did not explain why she had not answered when dispatch called back.

 Anthony refused the breath test and reportedly said he had already had a few DUIs and knew his rights.

 He was transported to the Newton County Detention Center. The car was left locked in the driveway.
