Mrs. Angela Gilmer of Covington and Mr. Ronald Ray of Lincoln, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter Jessica Kelly Ray to James Randall Robinson Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Robinson of Covington.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Homer Sharp Jr. of Covington and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ray of Childersburg, Ala., and the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Hazel Jones of Mansfield. She is a graduate of Eastside High School and received a BBA in marketing from Valdosta State University in May.

The future groom is the grandson of Mrs. Elsie Blair and the late Mr. Eugene L. Blair of Oxford and Mrs. Delores Norris of Covington and the late Mr. Richard D. Robinson Sr. of Conyers. He is a graduate of Newton High School and is employed as a firefighter with the Covington Fire Department.

The couple plan to wed Sept. 8 at Old Church, Oxford.

Thoughts on 9/11

This could be one of those generational things perhaps, but I think it's more in the way of a universal matter of compassion, awareness and plain shock that transcends any era. It's a simple question really, but riveting in its directness - do you remember where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks? Sept. 11, 2001 - a day containing events so unimaginable, they still defy comprehension.
