Two men found with marijuana, ecstasy and neatly sorted cash were arrested March 6, despite attempting to claim the clothes that contained the drugs were not theirs, according to a Newton County Sheriff's Office report.
Delvon Gray, of Covington and Eddie Johnson, of Lithonia, reportedly jumped out of a parked gray 2006 Chevy Malibu and began walking away as soon as NCSO deputies pulled up around 10:45 p.m. in response to a call about a suspicious vehicle.
Deputy Justin Hipps reportedly smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the Malibu and from Johnson as he spoke with him.
Gray, who had been sitting in the driver's side, continued walking away from the deputies and attempted to escape before being placed into custody by two deputies, according to the report.
As Hipps checked Johnson's pants for weapons, which were described as a "normal pair of pants," Johnson allegedly said "Sir, just to let you know these are not my pants." Hipps asked who they belonged to, since he was wearing them.
Johnson said they belonged to a friend.
Johnson also claimed the grey hooded sweatshirt was not his and that he had taken it off of the top of a mailbox of a nearby house. According to the report, he said everything he was wearing, including the socks, belonged to someone else.
In the pocket of the sweatshirt, Hipps found a plastic bag containing a purple-dotted blue pill with a Playboy bunny stamp that was suspected to be Ecstasy.
Johnson denied knowledge of the pill, saying "Man, these are not my clothes."
Deputies found a $637 in cash on Gray, separated and folded into one, five, 10, 20 and 100-dollar bills, for which Gray reportedly gave several explanations.
Also found in the cup holder of the vehicle was a plastic bag of suspected marijuana that both men denied knowing about.
Johnson was charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a schedule I narcotic. Gray was charged with felony possession of marijuana and intent to distribute and obstruction of officers, a misdemeanor.
