A man was reportedly carjacked at his residence on Meadowridge Drive Wednesday evening while warming up his car.

Newton County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Watterson said the victim noticed a suspicious black man in his 20s outside on the street when he went to crank up his car shortly before 8 p.m.

After heading back toward his home, the suspect advanced on the victim and withdrew a handgun.

Watterson said the suspect demanded the victim give him everything he had, but the victim told the man he did not have anything to give.

When the suspect was satisfied the victim did not have any possessions on his person, he told the victim to give him everything in his car and forced him to open the trunk.

It then became clear there were no items to be found in the car either and the robber told the victim to crawl inside the trunk. A struggle ensued but the suspect was able to retain his weapon and fled from the scene in the victim's silver 1999 Honda Civic.

The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing, a red and black racing jacket, black skull cap and dark sunglasses.
