The Newton County American All Stars clinched the state title by defeating Albany Dixie, 6-5, on Saturday during the 2007 Major League Dixie Youth Baseball State Championship in Albany.

As a result, Newton will advance to the DYB World Series beginning Monday until August 11 in Madison Heights, Virginia.

Furthermore, it was the first time that a DYB team (11-12 years old) from Newton County had ever won a state championship.

The Newton American All Stars are currently accepting donations to help fund their trip to Virginia.

Prior to securing a World Series lock, Newton had to win two games in a best-of-three championship series.

Overall, Newton scored a combined 50 runs in eight games throughout the tournament, averaging 6.25 runs per game. Defensively, Newton allowed just 14, equaling 1.75 runs per game.

Led by head coach Sonny Jones and assistant coaches Scott Walker and Bobby Wheeler, the Newton County American All Stars include Cameron Boyd, Sherman Graves, Hill, Jacob Jones, Tyler Manning, Cody Marlowe, Austin McCullough, Devin McDonald, Antonius Sims, Alex Smith, Cody Walker and Dalton Wheeler.
