Mr. Isaac Henderson Sr. died Oct. 28. The son of the late Janie Henderson, he was born in 1921 in Newton County. He graduated from Washington Street High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army in World War II.
He married the former Lavancy Benton. He joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church at an early age and served faithfully until his health declined. At his death he was the oldest steward. He served the church as a trustee, member of the Steward Board, class leader, superintendent of Sunday School and officer of the Interdenominational Sunday School. He retired from Georgia Highway Express after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by daughter Rachel Elaine.
Surviving are wife Lavancy; children Isaac, Janie H. Giles, Jean (Boykin) Edwards, Thurman and Emerson; grandchildren Bridgitte Giles Lawrence, LaNedra C. Giles, Dr. Rachelle Y. Edwards, Tonya R. Edwards, Maurice C. Henderson, Shayna Henderson Clemmons; great-grandchildren Byrant, Meko, Monte, Demario, Branton and Paige; sisters-in-law Lucille Dunlap, Willie Kay Durden, Bettye Fallen; cousin Annie Banks; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with the Rev. A.H. Hall Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
