Downtown Covington will soon transform into Hazzard County - or at least for three days. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 25, 26 and 29, Covington will sponsor the Hazzard County Cruise-In.

Located in front of the historic courthouse in Covington, or "Hazzard Square," the cruise-in will consist of the Hazzard County stunt team, General Lee mechanics, "Dukes of Hazzard" authors, photo opportunities of the historic courthouse with General Lee and other Hazzard cars.

Lead mechanic Tom Sarmento will be there with the official General Lee car that was used in the 2004 jump at Oxford College.

"We are looking to put on a fun event for the city of Covington," Sarmento said. "This will be a great time for fans of the show to come and mingle with the team."

Sarmento has been part of the Dukes of Hazzard team since 1979. He will be in town Wednesday night to talk about the trials and tribulations of being the team's lead mechanic throughout the week.

Also coming is Hazzard stunt team member Corey Eubanks, who began his career with the Hazzard stunt team and quickly progressed as his talents led him to doing stunts for Tom Cruise, Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone.

The Hazzard team is expecting between 80 and 100 General Lees, including patrol cars and a Daisy Duke Jeep.

The team will also be providing a professional photographer to take photos with visitors and the General Lee in front of the courthouse.

All Covington events are free of charge as a token of appreciation for the fans of the "Dukes of Hazzard."
