Covington Y swimmers had an impressive showing at the recent state GRPA Swimming Championship in Augusta, winning nine of the 11 medals won by the Rockdale County team.
The Covington team competes along side the Rockdale County Y swim team.
Covington Y team members Drew Ellwanger and Matt Tibbetts were double gold winners, while Jack Mitchell brought home a gold and a bronze.
Joey Ellwanger finished fifth, and Kemaya Tucker notched seventh and eighth place finishes in the meet.
Other competitors from the Covington Y swim team finished as follows: 7-8 girls: Jade Mcpike 13th 100 IM, 20th 25 back; Emi Gibbs 29th 25 free; 9-10 girls: Adoris Gibbs 29th 25 free; 11-12 girls: Heather Stanley 21st 50 breast; 13-14 girls: Brittany Owens 16th 100 free, 20th 100 IM; 15-18 girls: Shelby Gaddis 15th 50 free, 18th 50 fly; 7-8 boys: Cody Brooks 17th 100IM, 17th 25 fly, Brooks Benton 19th 50 free; 11-12 boys: Jack Mitchell 1st 100 free, 3rd 50 back, Matt Mitchell 15th 50 breast, 16th 100 IM, Hartley Oglesby 29th 50 free, Alex Jones 22nd 50 breast; 13-14 boys: Matt Tibbetts 1st 50 breast, 1st 100 IM. Joey Ellwanger 5th 50 fly, 10th 100 free, Robbie Ellwanger 12th 100 IM, 19th 50 breast, Josh Brooks 22nd 50 free, Joshua Lustenberger 27th 50 free; 15-18 boys: Drew Ellwanger 1st 50 breast, 1st 100 IM.
This is the most individual gold medals won by the Rockdale team at the state GRPA championships.
