Eastside extended its season-long winning streak to eight Tuesday with a 13-1 thumping of Jackson County in four innings.

Despite a shaky start defensively, the Lady Eagles (12-2-1) shrugged off an unearned run in the first inning to put a four-spot on the Lady Panthers in the bottom of the inning to take a quick 4-0 lead.

Shea Shepherd provided the offense with a 3-run home run in the inning, her first of the year, and Eastside never looked back.

Amanda Henderson was up to her usual dominant self on the mound. After a lead off walk that would eventually come around to score, Henderson shut down Jackson County over the next three innings. She struck out the side in the second and third innings while fanning 10 for the game.

"Amanda did a great job and so far this season, she's done a great job for us on the mound," Eastside coach Heather Wood said. "I've been very pleased with her. She keeps us in every ball game and gives us a chance to win."

Wood said after the game she felt good about her team's approach, especially at the plate where they totaled nine hits over four innings and kept the pressure on all game.

"Our bats came around today and I think everyone did a good job offensively," Wood said. "We looked a little sloppy in the first inning on defense but I think we settled down and our bats were able to keep us going and help us out."

Eastside gave up its only run after a throwing error allowed the lead off runner to score. Bri Chambers led off the inning with a single before Henderson drove her in with a sacrifice fly for Eastside's first run. After Sierra Petree and Amanda Hawkins both singled, Shepherd connected on a belt-high fastball for what would end up being the game-winning home run.

Eastside kept the pedal to the metal in the third inning, scoring four more runs. After Henderson reached on an error and Petree walked, Hawkins cleared the bases with a double. Shepherd had her hands in the scoring again as she followed with a double to plate Hawkins before scoring herself on a passed ball.

Jackson County hurt themselves on several occasions. The Lady Panthers committed six errors and had seven passed balls. Eastside made them pay as they scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth and five total before the game was called under the 12-run rule.

The middle of Eastside's order supplied the bulk of the offense as Shepherd, Hawkins and Petree each had two hits and went a combined 6-for-8. Shepherd led her team with seven RBIs.

As the Lady Eagles head into the meat of its region schedule, Wood feels good with where her team is on the field.

"I'm very pleased with how we've been playing so far," Wood said. "We have a long way to go and we have to continue the momentum we've gained. We still have a few things we have to work on, but our offense is finally coming around."
