The Eastside swim team placed 10th overall during the UGA Invitational on Saturday in Athens.

The local squad, which consists of just two swimmers, Drew Ellwanger and Nijyl Chavis, competed against 16 teams in the meet. Overall, there were over 400 swimmers at the event.

Ellwanger, who is currently ranked third in the state for the breaststroke, placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.6 seconds) and second in the 200 individual medley.

"I was pleased with my time," said Ellwanger. "The swim felt easy."

Chavis finished fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke and 10th in the 50-freestyle.

Both swimmers will compete in the state high school championships Feb. 8-9 at Westminster School in Atlanta.

"I am looking forward to swimming my best," said Ellwanger regarding the state title meet. "I also look forward to getting fired up to swim fast with my teammate, Nijyl."
