Charlie Brown Jr.

Mr. Charlie "Pop" Brown Jr. died Sept. 14. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie (Minnie) Brown, he was born in 1948 in Jasper County. He was preceded in death by siblings Robert Brown, Ruby Mae Hector and Eve Stanford and daughter Cathy Laface Brown.

Surviving are wife Azzie Lee Benton Brown; children Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Rita) Benton, Mr. and Mrs. Darold (Katrina) Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Gary (Crystal) Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie (Maxine) Head, Ms. Kaela Louise Brown, Ms. Tina Mack; brother Willie James Brown; sister Carrie Bell Smith; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Hezekiah Benton Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Shiloh Church Cemetery, Farrow.

Thoughts on 9/11

This could be one of those generational things perhaps, but I think it's more in the way of a universal matter of compassion, awareness and plain shock that transcends any era. It's a simple question really, but riveting in its directness - do you remember where you were when you heard about the 9/11 attacks? Sept. 11, 2001 - a day containing events so unimaginable, they still defy comprehension.
