Mr. Cecil G. Brown Sr., 75, of Covington, died March 21. The son of the late John Martin Sr. and Maggie Fambrough Brown, he was born in Walton County and had been a resident of Covington for over 50 years. He graduated from Morgan County High School, attended the University of Georgia and was a musician recording in Nashville, Tenn., and Atlanta. Mr. Brown owned and operated Green Hill Nursery from 1967 to 2002 and was former president of Georgia Nurserymen Association. A very active member of Covington First United Church, he was a member of the Chancel Choir and the Senior Saints. He was a Sunday school teacher and held various leadership positions within the church. Mr. Brown was a member of the Covington/Conyers Choral Guild and was a charter member of the Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority, serving for 19 years. He served on the Newton County Tree Preservation Board and Keep Covington/Newton County Clean and Beautiful committee.

Surviving are loving wife of 54 years Nancy M. Brown of Covington; children Gary and Kay Lee Brown, Lucy and Joey Courchaine, Lamar and Kimberly Brown, all of Covington; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; brother Lester N. Brown of Covington; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held March 25 at Covington First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Whatley, the Rev. Julie Schendell and Dr. Royeese Stowe officiating. Interment followed at Social Circle City Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Mr. Brown to Covington First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers St., Covington, 30014.
