Mrs. Betty Mathis, 72, died at her home March 28. She moved to Monroe two years ago after living in Conyers many years. Mrs. Mathis was a member of the First Baptist Church of Social Circle and was a former longtime member of Zion Baptist Church in Covington. She was a member of the Southern Baptist Convention's Disaster Relief Team, a Red Cross volunteer and an avid gardener. She was previously employed by Bio Lab in Conyers as a shipping manager.

Surviving are children Barbara and Jack Griffin of Social Circle, Vicki and Stacy Philippus of Social Circle, Danny and Pam Mathis of Covington; sisters Hilda Smith of Monroe, Millie McSwain of Conyers, Edith George of Winterville; brother Bo Smith of Covington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephew, other family and close friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, March 30, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, march 31, at Zion Baptist Church, Covington, with the Rev. Reese Sanders officiating. Interment will follow in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, Conyers.
