MONTICELLO, Ga. — The success on the football field in 2020 has led to postseason recognition for several Piedmont Academy players.

Seniors Chris Pittman and Jackson Welch were selected for the GISA All-Star football game. The game itself will not be played due to COVID-19, officials with the GISA decided.

“We were glad to see them selected but I hate they won’t get to play in the actual game,” Cougars head coach Will Johnson said. “It would have been a great opportunity for them to concentrate on nothing but football for several days. College scouts are always at the All-Star game as well.”

The duo was also named to the All-State team released earlier this week.

Pittman and Welch played key roles in Piedmont’s 2020 GISA Class A state runner-up season at quarterback and tight end respectively. Both players also were defensive standouts.

In addition, Pittman and Welch were named All-Region along with teammates Mark Hicks and Tanner Locklear.

In other GISA football news, John Milledge Academy won the Class AAA state title with a 49-0 victory against Frederica Academy. The Trojans compiled what may have been the most dominant season in GISA history going undefeated and winning each of its games by at least 30 points.

John Milledge defeated Class AA state champion Gatewood 40-0 and AA runner-up Brentwood 43-7. It was the third consecutive AA title for the Gatewood Gators.
