The Dixie Boys World Series officially begins Friday night with its opening ceremonies at 8 p.m. on the Covington square.

In preparation for the week-long event, teams started signing in mid-day Friday, arriving at City Pond Park.

The team from Tennessee was the first to sign in after arriving Thursday night. Before it began the Dixie Boys World Series, Tennesse spent Thursday night at Turner Field watching the Atlanta Braves play the Miami Marlins.

As the Tennessee players walked around the City Pond fields, the Florida team was already hard at work in the batting cages preparing for its first game Saturday.

The tournament gets going between the foul lines Saturday at 1 p.m. with North Carolina and South Carolina squaring off on field one and Louisiana and Arkansas on field two.

Florida and Tennessee will square off on field two at 4 p.m.
