Tigers rolls past Newton
MB

In what was likely a preview of the region championship, Alcovy (15-3-1, 8-0 Region 2-AAAAAA) traveled to Newton (9-14, 5-2 Region 2-AAAAAA) in a battle for sole posession of first place in the region. For the second time this season, Alcovy capitalized off Newton's mistakes to take a big lead and never look back, defeating them 7-0.

Both of the Lady Rams losses in the region have come against Alcovy. Both teams have two more games to play, but had Newton won, the two would have been tied for first.

“Yeah it was a big game because we didn’t have any losses in the region and before today they only had one. We told our girls, ‘This is a big game.’ It could go either way and you don’t wanna leave it up to a coin toss or all the little tiebreakers,” Tigers’ head coach Brandy Keeter said.

“They only scored seven so really if we would’ve just given up one or two runs in that inning like they earned, it’d be a 4 to nothing ball game,” Lady Rams’ head coach Ashley Coles said.

The Tigers used a five-run second inning, to propel them to victory. Madison Beazley led off the inning with a triple and was brought in by a single from Alexis Nolley. Nolley, Aubree Thacker, Raven Smith all scored in the inning, largely due to errors from Newton.
