Parent Educators from Rockdale County Public Schools and United Way of Greater Atlanta staff gathered June 4 at Rockdale Career Academy for a Vision and Voice Family Leadership Institute Reunion.

Last year, 25 participants graduated from the United Way-sponsored program, which builds the leadership capacity of parents. Institute participants focus on honing skills such as communicating effectively with school staff, goal setting and assessment, as well as developing community projects. The Reunion centered on celebrating goals achieved over the past year and establishing additional ones.

The overall aim of Vision and Voice is to build the skills and capacity of parents to take greater leadership roles in the systems serving their children, including early learning programs and schools. Participants learn how to advocate for their children as they transition to kindergarten and move through the educational process.
