The county will present ideas for rehabilitating Milstead Park and turning the historic pool, which was closed in 2009, into a park area at a meeting on April 19.

The public is encouraged to come out and learn about plans Rockdale County has to rehabilitate Milstead Park, located at 1665 Main St. NE, Conyers.

The project will be funded by the county’s 2011 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program. About $120,000 has been allotted for the renovation. The purpose of this particular project is to remove the existing pool and rehabilitate the site into a neighborhood park.

The meeting will be Thurs., April 19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Milstead Baptist Church, 1613 Main St. NE, Conyers, Ga., 30012.

The Concepts Plan for the area, a little less than an acre, will include ideas for a pavilion with picnic benches and grills, a playground for young children, community garden, half-court basketball area and walking path.

People will be able to provide written comments at the meeting. County representatives and the consultant firm also will be in attendance to answer questions and discuss the project. Plans and project information will be on display during the entire meeting time.
