Clerk of Courts hosts food drive

Rockdale County will host an employee food drive in support of Rockdale Emergency Relief every Friday through the end of the year.

"We expect to make two significant deliveries to RER around Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Superior and State Court Clerk Ruth Wilson. "It is wonderful to be able to come together in community service this way. What I appreciate most is that the idea came directly from the staff and they implemented it on their own. I think it says a lot about the kind of people who work here,"

The Clerk of Courts Box of Hope: Building a Better Community by Fighting Hunger, will feature denim covered boxes in the offices of the Rockdale Courthouse for collecting donations.

According to Rockdale Emergency Relief current statistics, RER has experienced a sustained 300 percent increase in clients over the last two years, aiding 9,609 people in fiscal year 2009-10. Rockdale Emergency Relief Executive Director, Ashley Roesler said, "The food bank needs donations now more than ever."

Donations are welcome from all persons and organizations willing to participate.

"We hope others in the Courthouse will join our campaign and help make an even bigger impact on the lives of our neighbors in need," Wilson said.
