Advent services at First Presbyterian

First Presbyterian Church of Covington will be offering Advent Prayer Services every Tuesday on Dec. 1, Dec. 8, Dec. 15 and Dec. 22, from noon to 12:20 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Advent is a four-week season prior to Christmas Day during which Christians pray and meditate in preparation for the special Christmas celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The purpose of these brief prayer services is to provide the community a quiet time of meditation and prayer during the busy holiday season.

The Rev. Billy Wade will lead the services, which will be a combination of quiet music, silent prayer and directed prayer. All services are open to the public.

The Advent Wreath traditionally contains five candles, one of which is lighted each week of Advent, culminating in the lighting of the Christ Candle on Christmas Eve.

The Prayer Group of First Presbyterian Church of Covington is sponsoring the Advent Prayer Services at First Presbyterian Church. The Prayer Groups meets every Thursday in the Brides' Parlor of the church from 11:30 a.m. to noon to pray for the needs of the church, community and world. The Prayer Group is open to persons from the community who would like to come and pray.
