Mr. Sheridan H. Davis, age 77, a lifelong resident of Newborn and former Mayor of Newborn passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014. He was born May 20, 1937 in Newborn, Georgia to Harvey and Thelma Dobbs Davis who have preceded him in death. Mr. Davis was the owner of S.H. Davis Welding and Repair, Inc. in Newborn for 57 years. He retired from General Motors and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Davis loved to draw, make wood crafts, and he was an avid outdoorsman. One of his biggest joys in life came when he could spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Marie Davis Herring and his granddaughter Danielle Marie Herring.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Davis, his sons and daughters-in-law Terry Sheridan and Marlene Davis of Mansfield and Eric Drew and Lanelle Davis of Newborn along with his brother Arden Davis of Newborn and his 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and “Sushi” and “Soda Pop” his pets. Mr. Davis is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Davis will be held at 11 o’clock Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Gregory Meadows officiating. Interment will follow at Newborn Memorial Cemetery. Following the interment the family will gather at the Newborn Schoolhouse to receive friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. J.C.
