After being approved by voters in the 2005 SPLOST, Newton County’s performing arts center opened with a performance of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Oct. 2.

After the downturn of the economy, the plan for the performing arts center was moved to a back burner and wasn’t picked up again until 2015 when the Arts Association spearheaded the joint project with the Newton County Board of Education (BOE) and BOC.  The new Porter Performing Arts Center is on Ram Drive, near the Newton College and Career Academy (NCCA) in the former Porter Auditorium.
