COVINGTON, Ga. — The teenager who was hurt in a Christmas Day go-kart crash could face a citation.

State troopers haven’t identified the 16-year-old who was driving a go-kart down a driveway and tried to turn around but was going too fast and went into County Line Road. That’s when he got in the path of an oncoming eastbound Jeep.

The driver of the Jeep, 27-year-old Preston Thomas of Covington, tried to brake and steer to avoid the go-kart but couldn’t. The front of the Jeep struck the back of the go-kart.

Sgt. Cory Seymour of the Georgia State Patrol said charges were pending against the go-kart operator.

The teenager, a Covington resident, sustained critical injuries and was flown from the scene to an Atlanta hospital. His condition has not been updated since the night of the crash.
