ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens is offering Georgians tips to deal with problems associated with severe winter weather.
Hudgens says Georgians should contact their insurance agents immediately if snow or icy conditions cause damage to their homes and cars. Hudgens says agents should provide property owners with claims forms and arrange for an adjuster to appraise the property.
Hudgens says homeowners should also keep receipts for materials that are used for repairs in case the costs are reimbursed by insurance companies and take photographs of damaged property that can be submitted along with insurance claims forms.
Hudgens also says apartment managers and landlords aren't responsible for damage to apartments unless renters can prove they were negligent.
