LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) — Sheriff's officials in metro Atlanta say deputies were pursuing a man to serve a search warrant when they were involved in a shooting in a church parking lot.
DeKalb County Sheriff's Lt. Kyle Jones told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the suspect pointed a weapon at deputies before he was shot in the parking lot of New Birth Baptist Church in Lithonia on Wednesday afternoon.
It's unclear how many times the man was wounded, and authorities say he was taken to the DeKalb Medical Center. Officials say the shooting wasn't related to the church itself.
The suspect's identity hasn't been released.
