Pedestrian killed on Atlanta street

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Sandy Springs.

Sandy Springs police Lt. Steve Rose tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/zw9QcT ) that the person who was killed was a male who was dressed in female clothing at the time of the accident. Rose said the accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Hammond Drive at Barfield Road.

The pedestrian, whose name wasn't immediately released, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and died. Rose said he sustained serious head trauma.

Police said traffic investigators interviewed the driver, who remained on the scene after the pedestrian was hit.
