ATLANTA (AP) — U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson has been named chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
Isakson's staff said in a statement Wednesday that the committee will play a key role in making sure that reforms passed by Congress last year are put in place.
Aides say Isakson's priorities as chairman will include oversight of the new Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act of 2014, approved in response to a scandal over long wait times for veterans seeking health care and falsification of records to cover up delays.
Isakson also was named chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics.
