Ga. lane closures to be lifted for holiday weekend

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia transportation officials plan to suspend many construction-related lane closures for the upcoming holiday weekend.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will suspend the lane closures from noon Friday through 5 a.m. Tuesday on interstates and other major state routes by holiday and tourist attractions.

The agency generally restricts lane closures during big holidays to alleviate increased traffic. That doesn't include necessary emergency lane closures. Transportation officials say crews will continue to work near highways, which could require some long-term closures to remain in place.

Motorists can access real-time traffic information by calling 511, online or by using the "Georgia 511" mobile app.
