ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Employee of an Athens church told police that someone stole $20,000 from church coffers.

The Rev. Carey Gibson of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church tells the Athens Banner-Herald (http://bit.ly/pymE04) that questions about the missing money surfaced during a recent church finance committee meeting. Gibson says a further investigation uncovered more information.

A police report indicates that there is a suspect in the case, but no charges have been filed.

Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman says police have enough probable cause to make an arrest, but would like someone affiliated with the church to go along with the prosecution.

Gibson and other church officials haven't decided whether to press charges.
