Elvis is back in the building.

Smiley’s Family Restaurant, a Southern food favorite for Newton County residents, has reopened in a new location, the Fred’s shopping Center off U.S. Highway 278.

The Elvis décor from owner Gwen Spear’s former location in Porterdale graces the walls in the new establishment, 6265-6267 Ga. Highway 278 N.E. The restaurant opened in 1994 on the square in Covington and moved several times before locating in Porterdale. That location was shut down in November.

Smiley’s, which reopened on Wednesday, offers classic Southern fare served buffet style.
