Newton High teacher killed in accident

COVINGTON, Ga. – A Newton High School teacher was killed in a two-car collision Thursday morning on Brown Bridge Road.

According to a Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) incident report, both vehicles were off the roadway and the drivers were entrapped when first responders arrived at the scene.

Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis said Nagamani Gorti, a math teacher at the school, was pronounced dead after being transported to Piedmont Newton Hospital. Davis said the other driver was airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta. That driver’s condition is not known.
