Mansfield youth killed in dirt bike crash

A Mansfield youth died after being ejected from his dirt bike in Jasper County Thursday.

According to Georgia State Patrol, at approximately 1 p.m., Garrett Barnett, 13, was traveling west on Rock Creek Ridge, just southeast of Newton County off of Rocky Creek Road.

The bike, traveling in the wrong lane, was struck by a vehicle heading east, GSP said.

He was transported by EMS to Jasper memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The other driver was not held at fault, according to GSP, and no charges have been filed.
