There will be no shortage of opportunities to participate in community fun this year on the Fourth of July. Events will take place all over Newton County, offering a wide variety of activities throughout the day, and plenty of fireworks will light up the sky.

Covington
In Covington, Independence in the Park 2013 will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. Bands and local groups will be performing throughout the day, with special guest Bo Bice, who won second place in the 2005 season of “American Idol,” performing at 8:30 p.m.

There will be face painting, inflatables, specialty vendors and food available.

Fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m.

This year’s sponsors include McKibben Music, Main Street Covington, the City of Covington, and Ginn Motors.

Porterdale
The city of Porterdale will also host a Fourth of July parade that begins at 4 p.m. No pre-registration for the parade is required, but participants are asked to show up several minutes before and to dress festively in red, white and blue.
Line-up will take place at Porterdale Baptist Church. After the parade, local band TNG will be playing from 5 to 9 p.m., and a cage-wrestling match will take place between 5 and 8 p.m.

Fireworks will follow.

Social Circle
On the morning of July 4, Social Circle will hold a car show beginning at 10 a.m. downtown. The town’s parade and fireworks event took place June 29.
