Eastside High School guidance counselor, Dr. Tina Daniel-Reasey, was recently named the Region IV Secondary Counselor of the Year by the Georgia School Counselors Association. As part of the award, Daniel-Reasey received a $1,000 scholarship for EHS to award to a graduating senior from PROBE. She also received a personal award of $300. “This was such an honor,” said Daniel-Reasey. “When you look at the other region nominees, it’s such an honor to be included with them. They are amazing counselors.” Daniel-Reasey added that the $1,000 scholarship was “a great surprise! It’s a phenomenal thing to be able to award that to one of our students.” Cindy Loveland, a guidance counselor at Livingston Elementary School, nominated Daniel-Reasey for the award. “Tina promotes achievement for her students and her colleagues,” said Loveland. “She has long been an advocate of the American School Counselors Association model and strives to align her program with the data driven model of school counseling. Through leadership, advocacy and collaboration, Tina works with students and co-workers to help them discover and achieve their goals.” Loveland added, “Tina is an active participant in our Professional School Organization, GSCA, as well as in the State Licensed Counselor’s Professional Organizations. Through taking an active role and serving in leadership positions, she keeps abreast of current trends in both counseling principles and youth trends. Both are a must with today’s quickly changing populations.” Daniel-Reasey is serving her twelfth year as a counselor and has worked in the elementary, middle and high school settings. Her background is in social work with a doctorate in Counseling Psychology. She has been a counselor at EHS for five years. She previously served as a guidance counselor at Veterans Memorial Middle School and Clements Middle School. Before joining Newton County Schools Daniel-Reasey was employed with Clayton County Schools. “Dr. Daniel being honored with this title is of no surprise,” said Dr. Robert Daria, principal of EHS. “She is an incredible individual with a heart of gold and I am pleased to have her as part of the Eastside High School family. She is a great representative for Eastside High School and counselors everywhere.” Brian Law, president of the Georgia School Counselors Association said, “Tina exhibits many qualities of a professional school counselor that has comprehensive school counseling program with results that make a difference for student achievement in her school.”
